The ESP32 development board has received mixed reviews from customers depending on the batches purchased. Some customers seem to have received boards with no pin labels on the bottom or top, which is not helpful when it comes to development. The voltage regulator might overheat with an input voltage exceeding 12 volts. Uploading code needs to be done with the correct driver, and the wifi requires a delay after reset to connect successfully to a network. A recent architectural change to the wifi chip's configuration may have rendered some of the ESP32 boards useless. However, many reviewers noted the board's solid WiFi antenna and its suitability for use with ESPHome for home automation projects.
