Quatuor Ebene Format: Audio CD Polkas Editorial Review
** Beethoven Around the World: The Complete String Quartets** The "Beethoven Around the World: The Complete String Quartets" by Quatuor Ébène has garnered high praise from classical music enthusiasts, appealing to both seasoned listeners and newcomers alike. Many customers reported being captivated by the quality of the performances, describing them as a remarkable blend of traditional and modern interpretations. This balance allows for a refreshingly distinct auditory experience that stands alongside esteemed recordings from renowned quartets such as the Vegh, Emerson, and Guarneri. Listeners emphasized the warmth and clarity of the sound, noting that the recordings maintain a rich personal touch that makes one feel as though they are seated in the front row of a live concert. The ensemble's vibrant and disciplined execution draws attention to the individual voices within the quartet, effortlessly revealing the intricacies of Beethoven’s masterpieces. The live performance setting, typically free of disruptive audience noise, has been well-received, enhancing the immersive experience of the music. The set captures a wide range of emotions, from light-hearted humor to profound drama, especially in pieces like Op. 132 and Op. 130, which customers remarked to be among the pinnacle interpretations available on disc. While the production quality has received universal acclaim, certain logistical aspects such as the non-sequential presentation of the quartets on the discs has stirred some discussion. Though some listeners expressed a preference for a chronological listening experience to better grasp Beethoven's developmental journey across the quartets, the uniqueness of the concert pairing has been appreciated as a creative approach. Overall, "Beethoven Around the World" is heralded as an essential collection for anyone interested in exploring Beethoven’s string quartets, worthy of being a cornerstone in any classical music library. The stunning musicianship and technical prowess of Quatuor Ébène ensure that listeners will not only enjoy but enrich their understanding of these iconic works. **
