Wolverine: Season One

**** "Wolverine: Season One" offers readers an engaging, albeit simplified exploration of the iconic character’s origin, capturing pivotal moments such as his early encounters with the Hulk and his recruitment into Department H. Writers Ben Acker and Ben Blacker successfully weave a narrative that respects Wolverine's established history while still presenting a fresh standpoint for newcomers to the franchise. The story unfolds with an interesting premise, illustrating Wolverine’s transition from a feral state to becoming a pivotal hero, inclusive of his initiation into the Canadian government’s superhuman operatives and the eventual integration of his iconic costume. However, the volume does have its pitfalls. A notable portion is made up of previously published materials, which some readers may find off-putting. Critically, the artwork, described as overly 'cartoony' with exaggerated expressions reminiscent of children's comic styles, may not resonate well with every audience, particularly those seeking the gritty realism typical to Wolverine’s narrative. That said, this art style does cater effectively to a younger demographic who might otherwise be overwhelmed by the darker themes often associated with the character. Despite these drawbacks, "Wolverine: Season One" serves as a decent introduction for those unfamiliar with Wolverine's backstory. It's accessible and has enough excitement to engage new readers. Longtime fans, however, may find it lacking in depth or novelty, particularly given its pricing compared to the value of content it delivers. Overall, the book is a fun read that balances entertainment and familiarity without necessarily breaking new ground, making it beneficial for veterans and promising for fresh faces to the Wolverine saga. **
