Data Modeling & Design Editorial Review
"NoSQL and SQL Data Modeling: Bringing Together Data, Semantics, and Software" is a book that fails to meet the expectations of readers looking for in-depth knowledge on data modeling. The author spends a significant portion of the book explaining common English meanings and providing unnecessary definitions, which can be frustrating for readers who are already familiar with these concepts. Furthermore, the author focuses heavily on promoting the COMN technique without adequately explaining other modeling techniques like Entity Relationship (ER) and UML. This weakens the case for COMN and leaves readers feeling that the author is reinventing the wheel. As a software engineer with 10 years of experience in the field, the reviewer found this book to be a waste of time and lacking in new ideas. Instead of providing practical guidance on data modeling for building applications or systems, the book only offers a basic understanding of the subject matter. Overall, "NoSQL and SQL Data Modeling" falls short of delivering the necessary knowledge and insights for effective data modeling.
