The product is more effective when applied in the evening when wildlife is least active. This pesticide is toxic to birds, and dogs should not lick it, but it is not harmful to dogs by scent. The product comes in little packets that can be split across several ant hills. Although it smells horrible, it works quickly and effectively to eliminate ants, including fire ants.
